Munir Jaber

Staff Security Engineer

Munir Jaber is a Staff Security Engineer at Cockroach Labs, working across cloud and infrastructure security, application security, and detection and response. He led the initial design and build-out of the company’s security detection and response program, establishing Detection-as-Code as a core practice, and continues to work across the company on broader security engineering efforts. Munir is a strong privacy advocate who believes handling data well is part of earning trust, not just meeting requirements. He tends to push back on security controls that add friction without making systems meaningfully safer, and prefers designs that hold up under real-world use. His focus is on keeping security from becoming an obstacle. He values thoughtful collaboration and mentoring security-minded engineers. He is particularly interested in building security systems that protect users without turning organizations into the Galactic Empire, and believes the best security controls fade into the background when things are going right and are only noticed when they are genuinely needed.

Logging for Detection and Response: How We Build Security Signals at Cockroach Labs

Modern applications rely on CockroachDB for workloads where resilience, correctness and availability are absolutely critical.
