Leader leases have been designed to handle network partition failures and liveness failures with faster recovery, without sacrificing performance. Specifically, leader leases deliver the following benefits:
Faster recovery in the event of a node failure thanks to a reduction in overhead in the mechanics of negotiating leaseholdership.
Network partitions now heal in less than 20 seconds while outages caused by liveness failures last less than 1 second.
The above is accomplished without sacrificing performance.
