Data infrastructure challenges are only growing more complex. When we launched our event series, Resilience Roadshow: Unlocking Operational Continuity with AWS & CockroachDB, we knew that data professionals were hungry for real-world strategies to navigate these obstacles.

What we didn’t know…was just how eager they were to meet up IRL, share ideas, and dive into what resilience really means.

Cockroach Labs’ 2025 Roadshow tour — spanning Dallas, New York City, Santa Clara, and Chicago — drew hundreds of architects, engineers, and IT leaders building the next generation of always-on applications. The panel discussions and hands-on labs were high-energy, covering everything from database deployment tips ‘n’ tricks to the latest developments in generative AI ecosystems.

Resilience was top of mind for all, as operational disruptions increase and regulations like DORA and NIS2 enforce strict standards. Recent research shows that 93% of senior technology executives surveyed are concerned about downtime’s impact – and fully 100% reported outage-related revenue losses in the past year.

Hosted in collaboration with AWS, each city featured a full afternoon of activities for teams focused on prioritizing uptime, scale, and compliance. The Resiliency Workshop got attendees going with CockroachDB as we set up clusters together, tested failure scenarios, and explored its built-in high availability and disaster recovery features.

We also explored new capabilities around GenAI integrations and point-in-time recovery (LDR & PCR), while real-world perspectives from CoreCard Software, Fortinet, Hard Rock Digital, and Spreedly grounded the tech in an enterprise context. Attendees also saw how CockroachDB and AWS enable distributed data architectures that meet today’s toughest operational requirements.

Big themes: Regulation, resilience & readinessCopy Icon

Across all four cities, key common themes emerged. Teams are looking for solutions that can support regulatory compliance and keep applications available across regions, clouds, and failure zones. We also saw that resilience isn’t just a database consideration — it’s an architectural priority throughout the stack.

The panel discussions were moderated by David Joy, Sales Engineering Manager at Cockroach Labs and host of our popular “Big Ideas in App Architecture” podcast.

“Attendees told us that the Resilience Roadshows were very timely, addressing the problems they're thinking about right now,” says Joy. “For example, modernizing for generative AI applications is top-of-mind: Data professionals are eager to learn how to make enterprise applications AI-ready and scalable. The Roadshows gave them a clear path for building AI into their existing ecosystem, and showed why CockroachDB makes it easier.”
